Tomás Saraceno – 14 Billions (Working Title) 2010

Artist and architect Tomás Saraceno explores the world we inhibit through his experiments in art and sustainability. For the 14 Billions (Working Title) exhibition Saraceno collaborated with astrophysicists, engineers, and spider researchers to create a large scale model of a black widow’s web. Inspired by the scientific study of spiders’ webs to understand the origin and structure of the universe, the installation took two years and 400 cubic meters of elastic black rope to complete.

The exhibit is a continuation in the development of Saraceno’s work from the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009: Galaxy Forming along Filaments, like Droplets along the Strands of a Spider’s Web.
Along with the new work the exhibition includes a number of photos, drawings, and texts which describe Saraceno’s work and process.
14 Billions is on display at Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm, Sweden through June 20, 2010.
